MD 421-II Cardioid Microphone is a cardioid dynamic microphone from Sennheiser, built for stage and studio use where a mic has to survive real handling and still track detail.

Dynamic construction means no phantom power, no fragile capsule, and no fuss.

• No phantom power required
• Handles high sound pressure
• Rugged metal build
• Consistent off-axis behaviour

What is the MD 421-II Cardioid Microphone?

The MD 421 II continues the tradition of the MD 421, which has been one of Sennheiser's most popular dynamic mics for over 35 years. The large diaphragm, dynamic element handles high sound pressure levels, making it a natural for recording guitars and drums. The MD 421's full-bodied cardioid pattern and five-position bass control make it an excellent choice for most instruments, as well as group vocals or radio broadcast announcers. One listen and you'll know why it's a classic.

What does the MD 421-II Cardioid Microphone do best?

It is a dynamic microphone, so it suits loud, close sources where a condenser would struggle. Vocals, guitar cabinets and drums are its natural territory.

Does it need phantom power?

No. Dynamic microphones are passive and run straight into any standard mic input.

Is a preamp required?

Any mic input with reasonable gain will drive it. Quiet sources benefit from a preamp with plenty of clean gain.

Why Sennheiser

Sennheiser has been building microphones and wireless systems in Germany since 1945. The reason their gear turns up on rental inventories and broadcast trucks is not marketing, it is that the units come back working and parts stay available for years.
