How Is a Phaser Different From a Flanger?

A phaser uses all-pass filter stages to create notches in the frequency response, which sweep. A flanger uses a short delay, producing a more pronounced metallic sweep. Phasers are subtler and sit in a mix more easily.

What Does the Resonance Control Do?

It feeds the output back into the input, deepening the notches and making the sweep far more pronounced. Low settings give gentle movement, high settings give the vocal, hollow sweep the effect is known for.

Is It Analog?

Yes, an analog circuit rather than a digital model, which matters on modulation effects where the interaction between stages is the character.

Why Warm Audio

Warm Audio builds recreations of the classic studio hardware most engineers will never get to own, at a fraction of what the originals cost. The company sources premium components, CineMag and custom transformers, Fairchild-grade capacitors, NOS tubes where the design calls for them, and puts them into circuits copied closely from the originals rather than approximated. It has grown from microphones and preamps into compressors, EQs, direct boxes, guitar pedals and cable.
